80. Malaysia 5 Sen 2008 Doubled Die Reverse ( DDR )

image 1: obverse and reverse of the coin

   My second doubled die coin!

I think this is a Type IV Doubled Die Reverse ( DDR ) due to Offset Hub Doubling. Through my observation, all the doubling in the reverse are in the same direction, which is towards 11 o'clock direction offset. Furthermore, the degrees of doubling on the design elements around the rim as in the center of the coin are the same.

This type of doubling happen occurs when the working hub is not alligned centrally exactly the same as the previous hubbing. Thus the die is hubbed with two different centers.

Personally I think this is a quite nice doubled die coin. How can we categorized a doubled die coin as a monster?

A very nice monster DDO. Your analysis is perfect for this class IV OHD. A major DD you've got here.Takes an experienced collector to figure that out..hehe
(monster or beast is just a moniker which one can choose and denotes the strength of the doubling)
Cheers!

By the way, it is not easy to identify whether the working hub or the master die has the doubling though we are certainly sure that the working die has it. The master die further up could have it too.
Unless we can inspect them, we just can't be certain for this type of doubling.
Cheers!

Wonder anyone has sighted a triple die variety among the Malaysian coins?

whycollect, I have seen an image, which the owner claimed it is a triple die variety. The image is a part of the congkak on obverse of the 20 sen coin. And I can see a little bit of two waves down under the congkak resembling the congkak itself, could it be tripled die ?

Hi nuchatter and whycollect, do you mind if I'm asking you what would be the price of this coin nowadays personally for both of you? Because I got no idea about its price range because it is not included in any local catalogue. Thanks.

OHD rarity level is 4-6 on a scale of 7. Price is indeterminate at the moment due to absence of leads and recorded transactions. Sell it at a comfortable price @ win-win price.
Local catalog has nothing to refer, thanks to those so called veteran publishers and nonsensematists!
cheers!

Hi Nu,
Ya, we have this one hell of a monster too, haha.
Honestly, we really hope all of us here would eventually have one of these.
Just imagine, one day, if we ever get together, cheng-cheng! everyone got one in their palms, haha.
Nu, honestly we could only suffer our jealously in silence when we saw some of your collectibles in your blog too, hehe.
Maybe, thats what motivates all of us to work harder, haha.
Thanks alot, Nu.

Hi Nu and mnfaj,
Nu, you're right. Lack of references's the main culprit.
Well, on the other hand, maybe its a blessing in disguise.
At least error coins now are not yet like a red-hot runaway train engine unlike some other numismatic items.
Anyway, whatever these error coins may be,at least we are certain they are rare. And rare items are normally very collectible, and hence have at least a reasonable value.
Mnfaj, with regards to valuation of these coin, we really have no idea like Nu has mentioned, lack of references.
Just collect first lor.
Cheers :)

nuchatter: May I know where can I refer that rarity level that you have indicated? Haha I think they are more towards bussiness rather than numismatic.

whycollect: Ya looking at the bright side, unavailability of references maybe a blessing in disguise as not many collectors are yet into this error coin collecting, hence we can grab those error coins without too much competitions.

Thanks all for dropping by. :)
